The installation is up!

I have spent the last couple of weeks working on a new installation called Quatrosphere. I created out of 4 yoga balls, 4 rolls of foil paper, some spray adhesive and a couple of rolls of clear tape. The process of covering the balls in foil was quite time consuming, but the end product definitely made it worth it. Once I had covers the balls in foil it was time to hang them from the ceiling of the gallery. With a lot of help from my friend Patrick, it was suspended from the ceiling with nylon rope. We had to harness the balls, then throw the rope and tie it. It was a trial and error process, but once we got the hang of it it became quite easy. After about 4 and a half hours it was up and better than I had imagined. It is hung at a local gallery called Big Medium and will be up until the 21st of May.

While I was waiting to see the space, my advisor and I decided it would be good for me to get familiar with my materials. I made 8 different textures with the foil paper, which will be my main material during this project.

Update on the Fourth and Final Quarter of my independent study

Hello All!

As it says in the title, this will be my final quarter of my wonderful independent study, and i’ve decided to go out with a bang!

I have been invited to participate in my school’s AP art show, and i have accepted. I have been given a very large space to create whatever I would like.

The theme of the art show is parallel anatomy, which sounds very complicated, but isn’t. At the moment I am planning on making two very large circular masses of fail, then suspending them from the cieling, next to each other.

The art show is May 11th, so i have 23 days to make this happen. I have a lot of foil paper, so i am ready to begin!

Pictures of the space are soon to come!

Changes.

I have come to a conclusion.

Wheatpasting is meant for graffiti purposes only. It’s strange to make something wonderful and then wheat paste it to something random in your home, or onto a piece of wood. When I used wheat paste for visual art, I felt like it took away from the artwork. My mentor and I worked out an alternate assignment for the end of my quarter.

Although wheat pasting wasn’t my favorite I had the opportunity to make two amazing pieces. The good habits//bad habits pieces, and another bad habit piece that I will post soon.
